Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh inaugurated the event
which was well attended.Lauding the chief Minister Mr.Oomen Chandy and his cabinet colleagues for successfully organising this event,the PM said," that the centre is seriously considering the demand of Kerala government to establish an Indian Institute of Technology(IIT) in the state."The Chief Minister Mr,Oomen Chandy assured all the investors that the government will support and swiftly clear all projects arising out of the Emerging Kerala which are people& environmental friendly and satisfy the development needs of the state.The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for Kochi Metro Rail Project for linking Aluva to Petta at a cost of Rs.5100 crores.After completion of the project,it would transform the face of the commercial capital Kochi by easing the burden of traffic congestion.
The Chief Minister Mr.Oomen Chandy submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister comprising the following:
1.Setting up of IIT in Kerala.
2.Compensation package for Endosulfan affected persons.
3.Problems relating to grant of Education Loans in Kerala.
4.Issues relating to Air services to the Gulf sector,high fares,exemptions required for starting a
new Airline " Air Kerala".
5.Railway Coach/Wagon factory at Palakkad and Cherthala.
6.Declaration of 'Malayalam' as Classical language.
7.Release of hostages from Somalian Pirates.
8.Inclusion of lightining.coastal erosion,snake bite,fire into the list of natural calamity
Relief Norms(State Disaster Response Fund).
9.National Highway Bypasses in Thiruvananthapuram,Kollam,Alappuzha,Kozhikode,Thalassery
Mahe & Kannur.
10.Grant of Financial package for debt stressed states (KPW Package).
11. Upgradation of Cochin university of science & Technology(CUSAT) into Indian Institute of
Engineering,Science &Technology (IIEST).
